Frequently Asked Questions
+ How does Antbreaker work?
Antbreaker works by attracting ants through our proprietary formula. The ants take the bait and food source that Antbreaker provides and carry it back to the colony. When the colony and queen consumes Antbreaker, it works on the ant digestive system and eventually kills them, thereby causing total colony collapse.
+ How is liquid ant bait better than gel or granular bait?
Liquid ant bait is the most effective form of ant bait simply because it is specifically designed around how ants work.
Worker ants cannot digest solid food, which they carry back to their colony for the larvae to turn into liquid before the rest of the colony can eat it. This means that ant bait in gels or powder form need to first be carried back to the colony, then turned to liquid by the larvae in the colony, and only then can the rest of the colony can eat the bait.
Using a liquid bait shortcuts this process - worker ants, larvae and the rest of the colony can consume this liquid bait immediately without needing extra time for larvae to digest.
What this means for you is a faster time to kill your ant infestation than if you were to use ant bait in gel or powder form.
+ Will it work on my type of ants?
Antbreaker works like magic on sweet-toothed ants. So if you see your ants going for sweet stuff around your house, then Antbreaker will be your secret weapon.
+ Any difference in formulation between the glass and plastic bottle?
The formulation is the same.
+ What if I can't find the ant trail to place the bait?
If you know where ants usually scout, you can place a few small drops of Antbreaker in those areas to lure the ants out. Then, either add more there or follow the ants to their nest and place bait nearer to their nest.
+ How do I apply the liquid on a wall?
You may lightly tape a cotton wool to the wall and soak it with bait to bait ant trails that are on the wall. That being said, ants will often scout around an area even if they are observed crawling on the wall. You can also place the bait nearby their trail, drip the bait down the wall to a flat surface where you can then add more bait.
+ How long does Antbreaker take to work?
For most apartment households with not many plants with soil for ants to hide, an estimate is around 1-3 days. Larger infestations may require up to a week of daily baiting.
For households that are near gardens (e.g. ground floor apartments or landed households with gardens) this can continue up to 2 weeks. The most important tip is to use enough Antbreaker to wipe out the colony on the first attempt.
+ Is this safe for pets?
If ants are your pets, it's deadly. But for other pets, as the bait active ingredient is sodium tetraborate decahydrate (5%) it is low in toxicity and virtually safe for humans and animals in the amount of a few drops of ant bait. That being said, do try to place the bait out of reach of curious pets, so that the bait remains undisturbed for the ants to get to it.
If ants are, in fact, your pets and you are an antkeeper, Antbreaker can help prevent your colony from unwanted ghost ant (tapinoma melanocephalum) raids if you place the bait outside your formicarium along the foraging path of ghost ants. This will eradicate the competing ghost ant colony.
+ Does the solution stain?
Antbreaker is designed not to stain, however, please test on a small area or place it on a disposable non-permeable surface. As a liquid it will absorb into unsealed surfaces (concreted, raw wood) leaving nothing for the ants! When the ants are gone, simply wipe away with a damp cloth or warm water.
